Community Tasting Notes 4

January 22, 2020 - As soon as I cracked the bottle it has a wonderful nose, ripe plums, coffee grounds/mocha. Decanted for 2 hours and consumed through the evening, it got better and better. Just a tad over medium bodied, again ripe plums, blackberry, blueberries, spice, mocha. The fruit weight supported nicely by the oak. Mouthfeel and length on the finish is impeccable for a wine in its price category. This should continue to drink well over the next 5 or so years, a real surprise.

January 2, 2017 - Happy New Year 2017 (St Lukes, Auckland): inky, purple hue. dense flavours, plum jam, dark chocolate, some spices, tobacco and smoky notes. rich and lush palate. lingering long.

very "new world", premium quality in this category, even better than wolfblass grey I rekon. however, it needs more acidity, more subtle notes, some turning and changing in glass to be a perfect wine, which you would never like to stop drinking. in the style of this wine, maybe one bottle is enough.

    Ap 5/5, Ar 12/15, Palate 17/20, Overall 4+3/10
    Total 91/100

March 31, 2016 - Wakefield/Taylors: Rich purple color. Dark and saucy aromas, like fig paste, plum skin, some blueberry jam, some vanilla coffee and sweet oak. Chewy but maintains a velvety feel from the tannins, medium acidity helps ton down the loud fruit (black cherry, blackberry, blueberry). I get notes of vanilla, cola, eucalyptus, roasted red pepper, and sweet black olive. Mouth-filling but stays relatively smooth and fresh. 55% of the fruit comes from Clare Valley and 45% comes from McLaren Vale, aged in American oak barrels.
