April 17, 2012 - Rim shows age, but the heart of the wine remains a bright ruby red. Some funk on the initial nose. Earth and fresh soil, some dried herbs and a bitter rhubarb aroma nearly cover up the black cherry, currant and wild red berry and boysenberry notes. On the palate, a fresher tone is more apparent. Tart cranberry, pomegranate and currant up front. Strong minerality with heavy notes of graphite and iron. The darker fruits, I can only describe as "dirty". Some hints of black olive and black tea. This is newly opened with some aggressive swirling.
