May 11, 2023 - The nose is gorgeous immediately upon decanting, showing a mix of leathery and soil driven tertiary notes, and still some gentle stewed strawberry fruit, a woodsy kind of spice, and a musky pungency. It's strikingly harmonious, essentially from the get-go, grows a bit in resonance for the next 15 or 20 minutes when it's most glowing and fabulous, and then it starts to fade, or more lie disassemble, for the next half hour. Never breaks though. The palate at first is not as exciting, but after 20 minutes or so it catches up. Beautifully balanced with good acids and with good structure, although the tannins have entirely melted into the wine). Not as complex and beguiling as the nose, but entirely delicious and classic, with flavors that echo the leather, musk, and stewed fruit of the nose. Neither elegant nor rustic, not super powerful, this is beautiful for its roundness, its harmonious and clear and expression of pungent old right bank soil and fruit.

This seems as though it will remain in good health for the immediate future, but there is nowhere it can improve. If I had more, I'd find people to enjoy it with now.

September 9, 2022 - Nobody would argue that this wine has not peaked, but it definitely has not fallen of the slope on the back side...! Drinking just lovely!

April 19, 2018 - Ah, Bordeaux. This is why I love you so much. Palma violets on the nose. Smooth and elegant at nearly 50 years old with subtle fruit and an extreme delicacy. The wine of the night and a wonderful wine experience from a historic chateau.

*Drank with Steve and Megan at Noble Rot in London.
