July 16, 2022 - Deep ruby with no signs of degradation. Boysenberry, Steen’s syrup, and seeet crabapple on the delicious nose. Exquisite, velvety texture. Notes of plumskin, boysenberry, mulberry, a touch of black olive, really delicious.

February 11, 2014 - Mature and balanced. Drinking very well but would profit from a longer decant than we were able to give...

April 30, 2013 - The Chianti Classicos by CDB from this 2001 vintage were stunning. I enjoyed a very many of those bottles over the years from 2007-11. I held on to this bottle as it was a higher end Super Tuscan thinking it would have all the requisite stuffing to age gracefully. I think it has, even though my first thought was it might be a couple of years past prime. In any case, it is an interesting fully matured example still very quaffable, especially with some Taleggio, bread and olives...lasagne later. In the glass, the color is a very deep garnet (not opaque). It has some light fading at the rim but in no way orange-y or rusted out. On the nose, you get the place right away; an Italian, rustic funk. The fruit is currant and there is a definite leather aspect. In the mouth, full and round, fruit is fading, for sure. As it gains air, it is apparent the wine is breaking down. The finish becomes shorter and the alcohol has started to separate out and burn at the back of the throat. All is forgiven and smoothed over with the food, however. Saving a bit to try with dark chocolate after the meal. Impressive stuff in this Toscana. You feel it is the real deal, a but primitive and un-messed around with.

October 2, 2008 - Dusty, really well made Super Tuscanesque wine. Form Giacimo Tacus [sp?]'s orginal plantings.
