Community Tasting Notes 4

April 12, 2019 - Appreciation on this is really a matter of style. It is undeniably well made, but it is a pretty dense, fruit forward, wine. It gets a little close to the line of overdone, but doesn't cross it. The fruit is ripe, with blackberries, blueberries, red plum, but it doesn't get jammy or leave you with any RS sweetness. For me, they could have dialed back the oak, but it isn't the worst offender I've had. You get notes of pepper, a little tar on the finish, some cloves and an underpinning of vanilla, but it is all just accenting the massive fruit core. The tannins a nicely integrated and really hold the whole thing together and keeps it being a cliché example of the style. Wines like these just scream for tri-tip, so it is true to its origin. Probably straddling the fence on the score, but it's a wine not a number.

June 24, 2018 - One of my favorite Syrah’s to date! Beautiful complex nose of pepper, leather and a sweet note. Highly recommend. One hour decant

April 19, 2016 - HdR Farewll BBQ (Hospice du Rhone): Jeff K. picked this up in his travels on the way to HdR. He was told it was middle of the road in style. NOT. This is huge and ripe. I liked it but it is big and extracted style of Syrah. Lots of big black raspberry fruit, some black pepper, plenty of oak. Strong tannins.

April 15, 2016 - It smells like stoniness, blackberry, tobacco, black pepper, black currant (cassis) and cherry. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle.
