December 2, 2015 - Very light and pale grassy green color. Rich and sweet-toned nose with aromas of creaminess, juicy pineapple, ripe peach, some Jameson whiskey-like vanilla, a little bit of wizened apricots and an oaky hint of Cognac spice. The wine is rich and and quite full-bodied with ripe flavors of sweet golden apples, oaky creaminess, some lactic yogurt tones, a little bit of vanilla, a hint of tart key lime-driven citrus fruits and a touch of grassy greenness. The moderately high acidity lends good freshness and sense of balance to the wine. The finish is lively, fresh and mineral with quite acid-driven flavors of steely minerality, tart green apples, some whiskey vanilla, a little bit of rich creaminess, light sappy herbal tones, a hint of toasty caramel oak and a hint of sweet white peach.

A surprisingly rich and oak-driven Pinot Blanc, but conversely also surprisingly fresh, acid-driven and mineral for a Pinot Blanc as well. The wine shows good freshness, intensity and structure, for which I commend the wine, but the surprisingly pronounced creamy tones and almost whisky-like vanilla characteristics still distract me quite a bit. Overall the fresh, almost green-toned flavors feel quite disjointed in the context of rich oaky flavors - or vice versa - which is why the wine feels a bit awkward, at least for now, lowering the score a few points. However, the wine feels like it could take on some aging, so perhaps some further aging (7-10 years, maybe?) might integrate the oak better with the fruit and make the wine feel more complete as a whole. Promising, but not fully convincing now and feels a bit pricey for the style at 20€.
