Community Tasting Notes 5

November 1, 2008 - This wine somehow sprang a leak. I think it may have been due to being under the fan for my wine cellar. Rather than chance it, I drank with Brad and Errol. Pleasant with tart red cherry flavors. Nothing outstanding on this night however.

December 8, 2006 - Bright ruby. Red fruits and minerals on the nose. This wine is such a baby and is currently very tight but has excellent concentration and balance. Very Burgundian old world style. I'd really like to see what this wine develops into ten years from now. I would have never guessed this to be a new world wine, let alone a Pinot from Michigan!

August 15, 2006 - Nuits St.-Georges Dinner, Mostly Leroy (Blackbird - Chicago IL): Double blind at a Burgundy NSG dinner. Light color. Big red fruit on nose and palate, some darker fruit emerging on finish. Nice but seemed a bit off kilter with too much acid and tannin for the fruit. Might be more interesting in a couple of years. The 2003 seemed more interesting.

August 15, 2006 - Blind. Full rd/pink. Clean feint slightly cooked red fruit aroma with notes of acidity. Big bold black fruit with a clean black coffee finish.

June 26, 2006 - Wyncroft Winey Tour & Vineyard Dinner (Wyncroft Winery, Buchanon, Michigan): This was the fullest and ripest of the 3 Pinots that Jim poured for us. Dark ruby crimson color with wonderful extraction. Every time I try one of Jims Pinots I am amazed at the concentration and richness of fruit he is able to achieve. Excellent depth with notes of clove, red berries and some nuttiness. Dry finsh with a good length. Impressive. Should improve. 90+ points.
