Community Tasting Notes 10

December 6, 2021 - Had this (after a 1 hr decant) with fresh white truffle risotto last night and it worked very well with the dish. Medium-bodied, still with some drying nebbiolo tannins but these are not objectionable to me and work well with food. Classic aromas of tar, pine, tree bark; not a lot of fruit on the nose, which is fine by me. I think this will improve a little bit in a few more years, so will let my remaining few rest until 2025 or a little later.

November 7, 2020 - Still feels young with pretty rough drying tannins, even decanted over 3 hours. Some good black cherry & plum fruit at the core, but a bit sour across the palate. Leather and tobacco notes, but not much floral. Just feels a bit disjointed. Faired well with gourmet grilled cheese and homegrown tomato soup, just no wow factor at this stage.

July 19, 2020 - Wine opened up over time and got better. Definitely needs to breath.

September 19, 2019 - Acidity really comes thru this time. Not sure if it has the fruit to go the distance.

Tasted 12/18 — Medium brickish color with definite signs of aging. Nose and flavors indicative of nebbiolo exposed to old oak-casks, so typical of traditional Barolo. Preserved fruit followed by drying finish and modest tannins. Enjoyable now, but the wine should soften with more time.

4/13/2017 — Tasting young Barolos is always a challenge as one has to ascertain — based on tasting experience — what the wine is going to be like some five to ten to fifteen (or more) years in the future. So many young, quality Barolos seem very much alike with their medium color density, dried cherry-like flavors and obvious dusky tannins. This is no exception. No doubt this wine will be enhanced with a patient wait.

May 7, 2019 - Solid QPR, a bit young here and will likely drink beyond the CT window of ‘25. Upon opening this was linear and backward, very little of the floral notes coming through and slight fruit. With air time (I should have decanted) it really opened up (roughly 3-4 hours in the bottle/glass) and made for a nice lighter side Barolo. I find the mid palate still a bit thin but that may integrate better with more age.
