Community Tasting Notes 4

October 6, 2021 - PnP and drank over two hours. No detailed notes. Took 20-30 minutes to open up. Even then, lean minerality. Cranberry and tart cherry, with some nice spice.

October 18, 2018 - Lasted tasted in 2016 and my score then was 90 with a few open questions as to how this Pinot do with cellar time.

In a word, Disappointing. Still pretty tight and more tannin then most other Pinot's. However there is a metallic component in this wine. I am very sure this was not flawed, it just did not develop well in the bottle.

August 3, 2018 - The first in a flight of several Brittan Pinot Noirs. This showed the same elements as the 2014 tasted recently (lemon bitters, petrol derivatives, and hints of salinity), though somewhat dialed back, which are certainly acquired and call for several years in the cellar to mellow. 91-92.

April 17, 2016 - I had to pop one early to see what Bob is doing with this wine... Glad I did! This is a big Pinot, rich and dark.

Deep purple in color, almost Syrah like with good clarity. The nose seemed light at first but the more it warmed the beefier it became. Red cherry cranberry, fresh mushroom and hints of a spice.

On the palate this is big, rich and had some firm tannin. This is a much heavier Pinot then the Gestalt or Basalt vineyards wines. Bright cherry and cranberry dominate up front, earthy mushroom on the mid palate and a tiny Asian spice on the finish.

I am not sure how complex this wine will be since its so young but it has the bones to be a fantastic Pinot. This wine is best enjoyed with food IMO due to its rather large presence and tannin structure.

We'll see what a year or two in the cellar does to this big boy.
