Community Tasting Notes 9

  • Neat Water Back Likes this wine:

October 13, 2023 - Always a great wine! Delicious from PnP over two hours.

May 9, 2023 - Dark, with black and blue fruit, earth and anise. On the palate there's more complexity than I was expecting. Not one of my favorite varieties, but this is a very well-made wine that is approachable now.

January 31, 2022 - Opened 3 hrs. before serving. Excellent balance of fruit and chewy tannins. On day two not much left so assume wine is at its peak.

August 31, 2020 - Difficult to give a true review as this wine is still very tight even after being open 4 hrs and decanted. A bit of concern is that even after 4 hrs my group only detected leathery tannin without any other notes. No rush in opening my other bottles.

February 22, 2020 - Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage.

≈1 hr 45 min decant into a plastic, cylindrical pitcher which was then capped; Private Preserve after Day 1

N: Slightly closed; Earth slightly atop RIPE berries; Intensity lurking?

P: Med body; RNDISH entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which quite irons itself out by the LONG, balanced, very, VERY slightly tangy finish with a bitter/swtness to the firming, but pretty much unoffensive, dusty tannins. Went superbly with the night's BBQ Pk Ribs (Baby Back) done in 2 different styles. For now & into, probably through '22, though that's with < "ideal" storage. 14.9% ABV; My EXC-/EXC. 93 pts & “Cellar Selection WE (6/1/17) @ $45. // Day 3: Held up very nicely, going well with tonight's Lasagna Beef/Pasta Bolognese Sauce MRE (COSTCO), though NOT *as* well as a freshly opened '12 Cune Rioja Reserva. [As of early Apr '20, wine-searcher still shows 2 sources @ $43 & $45].
