December 30, 2023 - Wow. This is the best white Rhône I have ever had. The complexity and finish is amazing. It had a combination of lemon, dried apricots, and beeswax. It also had a viscosity and mouthfeel that was beautiful. It was still fresh and young so will last many years from now but it is in a good place to enjoy sooner.

To put this another way, this wine is the guest who shows up wearing an outfit that is not showy but perfectly put together, it just all works. They are fun and enjoyable and a great conversationalist. The next day you just keep remembering what they said and how wonderful it was that they were there. What an enjoyable evening.

January 10, 2023 - I’ve had very mixed luck with Chapoutier’s whites. I don’t know if it’s a storage problem, a production problem or just bad luck, but a few from the 2000s have been heavily oxidised (undrinkably so - I’m happy with light oxidation but some of these reminded me of the dark days of burgundy premox).

This one, though, was in fabulous shape. Beautifully rich and rounded, really mouth filling and unforgettably huge length. I’m pretty sure I have another one somewhere but, on this showing, think I can wait a while. Let’s hope so

December 15, 2013 - A unique wine, and these white Rhones aren't for everybody, I thought it showed nicely.. From magnum, very youthful and just starting to darken a tad to golden color. Oily nutty nose with dried lemon/orange peel and a touch of kerosene/truffle/petrol. A sweet tea nose as well, but bone dry on the palate. Dried ripe fruit and nuttiness on the palate. Great with a truffle risotto.

December 21, 2008 - An ethereally light wine of nuance. Honeyed crushed minerals on the nose, with a wet warm earth element. Crisp and silky on the palate without a ton of intensity but a very refreshing wine nonetheless. There is a touch of seashell, hazelnut and truffled honey, but just a touch.

November 18, 2005 - Pale-medium yellow colour. Aromas of marshmallow, apple, and mineral. Light-medium bodied, a little dilute/flat. Short finish, 10-15s, with white fruit. Closed, perhaps?
