Community Tasting Notes 10

September 21, 2022 - This bottling is definitely showing its age. Still enjoyable, but not nearly as exciting as previous experiences. And showing signs of oxidation quickly after popping the cork; not one to drag across multiple days. Drink up if you have any remaining in the cellar!

January 31, 2021 - Large scale red fruit (cranberry) and a variety of other complimentary funky notes. Medium-bodied. Definitely not burg-like. Very nice version of this style pinot from a vineyard that I consistently enjoy. I am going to miss MacPhail. Their wines have always brought me pleasure (and my couple of visits to their tasting room in Sebastopol were great fun).

December 31, 2020 - Why I love wine... wasn’t feeling in the mood to open something “good” so figured this was on its last legs and needed to be drunk. First sip and I’m like hmmm what’s up here? Ended up seriously loving this and it’s one of my favorite pinots of the year. There is a really interesting Pinot funk, forest floor thing going on but all in a good way. The fruit is still pretty strong here more in a darker cranberry range. Super tasty and hides the alcohol well. Less acidity than I’ve been leaning towards lately but think this works perfectly as is and is great in this style. Who knew this would age this well. Hats off to James, I think this was his last year as winemaker (or at least close to it). That’s a good way to go out but kind of sad what ultimately became of his namesake winery. Btw, my head says 94 is high but just going with how much I enjoyed especially given the surprise aspect.

March 26, 2020 - More savory and dense than many domestic pinot noir but escapes being a "pinot syrah." Would I buy it again? Probably not at the tasting room price of $50.
