Community Tasting Notes 2

November 13, 2006 - Interesting Mourvedre based wine. This smelt and tasted very rustic when first opened but after an hour and a half in the decanter it improved quite a bit. Needs plenty of air. Strange nose, floral/citrus notes - a bit more like a white than a red but it does have an earthy and slightly gamey quality to it. To taste a decent mid-weight wine. Reasonable red fruits, a bit of earth and some herbs in the background. Interesting but I don't think I'd buy it again.

June 9, 2006 - An International Challenge: Languedoc vs. South Africa (World Service Restaurant, Nottingham): 14.5% abv; 70% Mourvèdre, 30% grenache
A fairly simple, quite straightforward nose with some meatiness. Sweet black fruit on the plate, and it seems very simple and straightforward and a bit sharp. Good.
