Toasty Oak Likes this wine:
January 8, 2021 - Youthful appearance of dense, vibrant violet. Powerful aromatics of ripe plum, blackberry and lilac with an animal undercurrent...just this side of acceptable brett (Band-Aid, bacon and barnyard), the palate confirms though the brettiness is less apparent. This is full-bodied with balanced acidity and tannins. The finish is long and evolves to reveal white pepper, licorice and dried herbs.
Served with braised short ribs (I also used the wine in the recipe). -

November 1, 2020 - Zero nose upon opening, so into the decanter it went. A few telltale Syrah characteristics started to emerge: black fruit, white pepper, but there was a strong leathery note that, like a recent taster's experience, did not dissipate or soften with hours of air and really blanketed the wine. Only/last bottle. Perhaps the fruit's reticence suggests more time required. For now, out of balance, IMO.

MattLP Does not like this wine:
November 29, 2019 - Overwhelming note of leather that does not dissipate and detracts from an otherwise ok wine. Generally I miss detecting leather in syrah so, based on other comments here, I assume significant bottle variation.

December 28, 2018 - Deep Ruby in appearance .
Evolving and pronounced nose- some classic Syrah aromas of blueberry, black fruits and some white pepper. There would no doubt in a blind tasting that this was Syrah. Also some "exotic" notes of vanilla and spice.
Full bodied on the palate with lost of similar flavor characteristics, medium minus on the tannin side and good acidity. Although high in alcohol ( per the label its at 14.6%) the wine is in no way flabby or heavy. The finish is medium plus to long.
Who knows how long this will last, so I would drink now.
In summary I'm sure this wine will be "controversial" given how big and showy it is, but IMO delicious for the style. If you are looking for a Hermitage or Cote Roti this is obviously not your wine.
Also- this was drunk at cellar temperature -say 55 -57 F. I think this helped keep things fresh. -

November 30, 2018 - Dark color. Relatively fruity/ floral nose. Mostly red fruit but darker overtones. Good, smooth mouth feel with fine tannins. Good finish. Drinking nicely.
