February 9, 2023 - Nowhere near as beautiful as the first bottle I had, but opened it on a whim, so the fine sediment may have caused the issue. Still delicious 60 year old Barolo though with all the notes you would expect. Balsamic glaze, stewed orange peel, amaro, truffles, potpourri.

September 25, 2022 - Liked it, but never really put on weight over the hours. Great acidity, red cherry, mushroom balsamic and some earth notes…. Just needed to fill out some on the mid palate, and perhaps lose a bit more of the typical old funk I get on opening these aged barolos (even after 5 hours, it still had a bit much). Next time I would try opening in the morning and letting it sit all day.

June 26, 2022 - This was as damn near perfection as I have found. Ethereal is truly the best word to describe it. Bright cherry, truffle peelings, tilled soil, cardamom, garam masala. Everything I could want.

August 31, 2016 - Incredibly beautiful, luminous pale garnet color. Incredibly complex, intense and developed bouquet with rich - both dry and sweet - aromas of blackcurrant jam, cherry marmalade, blackberry wine gum, roasted oriental spices, some leather, a little tar and a hint of mushroomy earth character with a delicate undercurrent of sweet acetone volatility. Though the nose suggests richness, the vibrancy and intensity of the palate still takes by surprise with ripe, developed and infinitely complex flavors concentrated with age. Notes of cherry marmalade, dried dark fruits, some bitterness, vibrant red fruits, some brambly notes, a hint of leather and a touch of umami meat stock. The wine is medium-bodied with medium-to-moderately high acidity and despite its moderately high tannins, the mouthfeel is incredibly elegant and velvety. 14,5% of alcohol remains completely hidden. Extremely persistent, complex and developed finish with haunting, layered flavors of sour cherry, wizened red fruit, dried prunes, some tar, a little leather, a hint of dashi and a touch of meaty umami.

A breathtaking wine. Already its nose is something remarkable, but still the first sip of the wine is something impossible to describe. Incredible intensity, purity and structure. Although the wine is almost 50 years old, it seems to be much younger than many other wines with years, even decades less age. A spectacular effort and in a tasting of Barolos from 2004 until 1961, this was the wine of the night for all attendees. Incredible stuff.
