September 27, 2017 - Medium-pale ale color. Hot, malty nose of salt water, peanut brittle, berries, floral perfume, and a lingering resinous scent (the latter being a Hakushu hallmark). There's a hard-to-place scent swirling at the margins, a bit of sweetness balanced against a whiff of acetone. The palate is hotter than I recall, richly nutty and salty in the way that some of the younger Ichiro's malts are. This finishes with a Christmasy note of pine tree (again, Hakushu) and a lingering heat, a reminder that this was bottled at cask strength. This was, regrettably, the last dram of a long-savored bottle. Too precious now for us normal folk, this will probably be the final time I get to enjoy a whole bottle of Suntory single cask. Sincere thanks to my generous benefactor.

March 9, 2016 - Exotic nose of ripe plum, incense, rosewood, and ground cinnamon. Palate is medium-bodied, with the intense flavor of rosewater, showing little of the stern smokiness evident in the Hakushu 12 Years Old. Elegant; one to enjoy for a very long time.
