July 20, 2020 - On opening first impressions were that this was a bit hot and rough. But coming back to the bottle 48 hours later it seems to have settled down and be more nicely focussed.

The nose brings spices, bitter orange, some burnt caramel, much complexity. On the palate, those same aspects plus nutty notes, with overall intensity and quite some bite. The finish is very long, saline, and more-ish.

Overall it does really need at least some basic food to go with it - it's a bit intense to be a stand-alone aperitif.

June 23, 2020 - One glass. This is an intense wine, the age of the solera is extremely notable. Bold and elegant; the color is a beautiful medium copper. On the nose, vanilla, baba au rhum, ginger biscuits, a huge mix of aromatic spices, burned firewood, some mushrooms and forest floor scent, deep meat sauce reduction. A meaty and oxidative aftertaste that lasts forever. I’d love to drink more of this.

December 29, 2018 - Nice pale copper colour. On the nose, aromas of flora, almonds, orange rind, salted caramel, coconut, pumpkin pie and smoke. On the palate, a frank concentrated attack with the aromas on the nose and a long salty finish. Very nice amontillado. Tasted concurrently with the Marques de Poley Palo Cortado, this adds the complexity of the flora and a slightly better concentration. The Palo Cortado has a nice purity, but in comparison. Also, as good as this is, I don’t think it is quite as striking as the Del Duque, but it is still very good. 92?

November 25, 2018 - White pepper, nutmeg, dried mango, stewed apricot, bitter walnut and hazelnut. The fatness of the PX grape, plenty of bitter almong and walnut, and almond skin in the back- palate, smoke, dry Brazil nut finish. Lacks freshness and/or generosity. Very interesting. I just return to thinking that I'm a Jerez kind of guy
