Community Tasting Notes 4

August 28, 2016 - Some mineral reduction to the nose. It is very calm and even and oozes rocky minerality. It has a chalky base and the finish is decidedly salty. There's just a gentle squeeze of lemon and a suggestion of citrus blossom once it breathes.

April 26, 2016 - Limpid, watery whitish-green color. Quite closed and vaguely reductive nose with aromas of ripe red apple, some perfumed floral tones, a little bit of steely minerality and a faint hint of rubbery reduction. The wine is crisp, light-bodied and quite lean on the palate with dry and lively flavors of steely minerality, tart lemon citrus fruits, some fresh red apples and a hint of wet stones. The racy acidity emphasizes the lightness of the body and the freshness of the fruit. The finish is quite long, crisp and somewhat neutral with mineral flavors of cold gun steel, chalky bitterness, some tart lemony citrus fruit, a little bit of red apple and a hint of floral apple blossom.

A very fresh, crisp and quite lean Riesling that is very precise and steely, true to the Rheingau style. A pleasant and refreshing everyday white with good sense of structure, but a little bit one-dimensional and underwhelming for its price (22,40€). I doubt aging will make this wine much better, since it feels more like a wine for immediate consumption, not for cellaring.
