    June 16, 2021 - Delightful, fun, frivolous.

Drunk over a few weeks pouring from coravin.

Light golden colour; nose a bit muted, but still interesting.

In the mouth this comes alive though - there’s richness, a backbone of acidity, and a mix of honey, vanilla and spices. Very lively, and the aftertaste is persistent.

What I love about the LaTB is the element that I think comes from the muscatel - it is different to all other Sauternes I have had. To my mind it is a kind of boiled honey sweet flavour. I see that Jancis refers to icing sugar in her tasting note, and again I get that. It reminds me of childhood tastes of sweets, which may sound simplistic but is in fact lovely, fun, and very more-ish.

My last LaTB was a 2005, and I have a case of 2016 in storage. On this tasting I think I prefer the more extra dimensions that come with a bit more age, so will try and hold off drinking 2016s til they have 10-15 years of age.

Once again, Sauternes showing what amazing wines can be drunk at reasonable cost. Every sip a pure pleasure bomb!

June 10, 2020 - Crazy good value. Concentrated, but equally lifted, too, this is already in a good place. Fresh typicity, and at this point, a few oz. were all that was required. Something of a meal in itself at this point. For its full potential highly recommended

October 13, 2019 - I don't normally do this, but I thought it might be instructive to pass on my tasting of this wine on day 2. We have now a much fuller wine, a fuller lift on the nose and a greater density across the palate. It has lost something of that angular charm that it possessed yesterday, but has grown in stature.

It is still not quite there yet - just a tad too much sugar on the back palate, and I am still waiting for that petroleum to emerge (Muscatel, I think). But this is a very fine wine, with great purity, which speaks of superior winemaking skills

October 12, 2019 - This is the youngest Sauternes that I have ever drunk. Beautiful lucid lemon colour; clear lifted nose of green banana and dried apricot (wonderful purity); great balance on the palate of the same fruits (although I miss the superior petroleum that is a hallmark of this wine).

I can see why people appreciate Sauternes consumed at this early stage: greater acidity, a fuller definition across the mid palate, a lack of cloying.

But really we are missing so much about these wines, which will grow in depth through the years (and this particular wine has a residual sugar on the back palate that will only go with ageing).

A very good vintage for La TB, nonetheless, a wine that is quite distinctive and deserves a greater status than it has amongst the big boys.

June 16, 2018 - Tasted after 2015 Suduiraut. Thick, concentrated, rich with lots of intensity on nose and palate. Not as vibrant and not quite as elegant in comparison, still good acidity, just on the riper side. Very good length. 92-93+
