January 12, 2017 - B30; G10; 4+8*+4*+8*+8*+4*+4*=91+; 13% alc; Much better than I was expecting from a $25 bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir. Really great color: light ruby with just a tinge of rust that seems odd since the wine is young and shows no signs of oxidation (almost like it is unfiltered, but no info on bottle or winery website). For Oregon 2014, a great light color along with low alcohol and no green notes means their young vineyard has a lot of potential once the vines get some serious age on them. Aroma upon opening was subdued and locked up cardboard, which diffused after being open for a bit along with time in the glass. The aromas eventually began to accumulate in the glass and yielded nice cherry/strawberry with some spice, cinnamon, vanilla and just a wee bit of menthol that lent a richness and depth; mouthfeel is smooth, with just the right amount of mouthwatering acidity; flavors closely mirror the aromas with a medium length finish and good richness and depth. The wine appears very well balanced and could have several years of cellar improvement (2-3?) and then an additional few years (3-5?) of overall storage. Great QPR. Just give this some time to open in bottle (60+ minutes) and at least 5-10 minutes in a big Pinot glass to continue opening and accumulating aromatics for maximum enjoyment. Overall very solid wine.
