Community Tasting Notes 5

January 11, 2020 - The nose offers some ripe, almost exotic fruit notes, smoke and a hint of hazelnut and white pepper. Elegantly oaked, I would say. On the palate it has good volume and texture-wise is on the chiselled side - not much fat here to be found. Thoroughly well balanced with discreet lemony fruit, well-judged oak and very solid acidity. Markedly chalky, a really beautiful expression I think. It is not a showy wine but I enjoy it plenty on its own. The saltiness on the finish really make you first smack your lips and then go for another sip. I paid next to nothing for this bottle and obviously for that it over-delivered. I don’t think it’s something that would gain much from more time in the cellar but right now it’s drinking really splendidly.

July 23, 2019 - Like the first one I had, quite fine. Beware of bottle variation.

April 25, 2019 - I've had a couple good bottles of Duroché's bourgogne blanc but a troubling number of them have been bad, seemingly premoxed. I am beginning to suspect that the corks (which are soft and spongy, a different quality than those in his more expensive stuff) are an issue. Not sure if his later vintages changed the corks up, but I'll find out.

February 7, 2019 - Holy cow. Almost premier cru chablis-like in the oystershell opening but then on comes the gunflint nose. The taste is very clean and pure -- not complex but still pretty much all I want in a bourgogne blanc. Excellent stuff, not to be missed.
