Community Tasting Notes 2

October 16, 2006 - This wine was pretty good. Nice strong nose of evergreen and leaves. Tannins are there but moderate. There are several layers of fruit here, blueberry, raspberry amongst them. One of the stronger aged shiraz's I have tasted lately and an excellent effort for $27. This bottle was better than the first I had, if I remember right. Finish is a good minute plus.

July 24, 2006 - Rob Gibson's signature is the only identification of Gibson on the label. Otherwise, it is simply referred to as Barossavale Shiraz. The label also mentions the same area where Gibson's is located, Light Pass South Australia, so I assume that this is Rob Gibson's product and that he changed the winery's name in subsequent vintages. Also, the flashlight beam shaped yellow and orange figure on the label is prevalent on Gibson's website and certain other labels so I am pretty sure this is just an early rendition of a label when he was a new producer.

The wine is a little alcoholic on the nose, but not too bad. A little just picked berries in the nose. On the palate, nice rich berry flavors, I guess I would call them raspberries but people with more defined palates might have a different ID. The tannins became a little more evident as the wine was open for about 2 hours. A little tar and chocolate flavors also evident with a nice 20 or 30 second fiinish.
