December 31, 2019 - Needs more time. Too bright and strong at this age. Very fruity and not balanced.

August 11, 2019 - Lots to unpack here, and I'm not sure I'm totally up to the task.

What I first noticed was a long lasting, and very pure midpalate. The flavor was a bit different than the Dussek Syrah I enjoyed earlier. The Dussek seemingly had the blackest fruit possible. But this Avennia instead had dark red fruit that seemed to develop into some black fruit. Very pure, very long lasting with no harshness or anything out of place on the finish. Some bacon fat helped keep the midpalate rich.

The finish had notes of flint, graphite, dark tobacco box, and mocha. Brighter flavors snuck in, and I wasn't able to identify all of them. But I could pick out some white pepper and orange zest at the very front of my tongue.

I really enjoyed this wine. Perhaps the only people that wouldn't are those who enjoy leaner Northern Rhone as their favorite Syrah. This isn't jammy, but it is a bit rich and thick. That said, I didn't feel like this was overly alcoholic.

August 6, 2019 - My last bottle, and I'm bumping up my score from my previous bottle. Medium length finish. Great for the price, and I've always liked Avennia's wines. I enjoyed this with my wine group at a NYC Pizza place. Pretty much everyone's second favorite wine of the night. Notes of Pepper, black olives and dark fruits. Well balanced.

March 5, 2019 - Our second wine of the night, it followed a 2014 Outpost Cabernet, with my Mardi Gras Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. Not a great match for the Gumbo, but it tasted really well on it's own. Medium length finish. Not bad for the price, and I've always liked Avennia's wines, but I just don't see WA's 95 point score.
