November 29, 2011 - Manuka, honey, aged soy sauce, apricots and ripe citrus and distinct chiku nose. Ripe mango, apricot and peaches. Well integrated, gentle acidity and showing well.

November 29, 2011 - Rhone Night (Zeffir, Dunlop Street): This was really very nice. While the pair of Hermitage Blancs may have been more intellectually interesting, this was probably the white that gave the most immediate pleasure. It had a really expressive nose, just bursting with Chinese pears, beeswax aromas, almond jelly scents and drifts of white musk. Very different from the other whites on show, but very attractive in its own idiosyncratic way. The palate was really yummy too, with its rich, warm flavours of boiled Chinese pears, damp earth, warm spices, cooked honey and a bit of white meat - lots of sweet fruit flavours wed to savoury low notes. Interesting stuff. The finish was impressive as well - full, deep, super-long, it had lots of honey, warm yellow fruit and spice notes pulling away into the distance. An extremely enjoyable wine. At a nice place now if you like your CdP whites matured. This may have lost some of the crisp citrus notes of youth, but what you get instead is a warm, honeyed glow. While some of the others may have preferred one of the other of its Northern neighbours, this was my favourite white of the day.

November 4, 2009 - 4BOW: 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape: Golden yellow color. Lemon and lime nose with some oxidation. Tastes of melon, lemon, lime and mushroom. Well balanced. Medium bodied. Tired. Was opened an hour prior to drinking and the wine is quickly fading in the glass. A casualty of drinking in the right instance in time. Drink them if you have them. Showed much better a few years back. No rating.

November 4, 2009 - if you read all my past notes, you can readily see what i have thought of this wine. i'm told it was opened at 5 PM, but i didn't get a taste until 6:50 PM. it was too warm, and gone flat by then, so i can't actually say if the wine is holding well or not. others who tasted earlier said it was in good shape. thanks for the equal opportunity! bleh.

September 20, 2009 - A terrific wine for the ABC crowd. Smoky, spicy, and -maybe subliminally because its fall here in the Midwest- an apple cider like fruitness. Refreshing, complex, ridiculously good. Its amazing how white Rhones continue to fly under the radar here in the US- their flavor profile and QPR are outstanding.
