February 6, 2024 - This wine has barely budged over the year since my last bottle. It's full of terrifically rich dark fruit, velvety dense tannins, and a strong backbone of acidity. It was delicious but felt like a shame to drink it last night, given how much more it will offer in 3-4 years. I'm going to do my best to leave my last bottle alone and enjoy it in its full glory down the road. For $65, this is one heck of a wine. My score reflects current drinking, but I'd expect this will hit the mid-90s when it peaks.

July 16, 2023 - We had Jane and Drayton Stott over
Barb made a great watermelon appetizer and perfectly cooked 2 huge CostCo Ribeyes
A fresh summer dish
Fresh watermelon with crumbled feta, preserved lemons, mint, basil and olives
We did a port wine reduction and mushrooms side along with fresh corn and broccolini
Jane brought heavenly peach/blueberry pie
Wine.
2014 Rivers-Marie Cabernet, Napa Valley, alc 14.5%
Decanted an hour
Intense and well balanced with ripe fruit. Still youthful.
2016 Failla Haynes Vineyard Chardonnay, Coombsville. Alc 14.1%
Beautiful in taste and texture. Excellent fruit. -

July 10, 2023 - Consumed over 3 days (stored in Somm du Vin), note from day 3. Appearance: Clear, deep ruby with slight cloudiness on the edges. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with aromas of green bell pepper, blackberry, cassis, clove and blackcurrant leaf. Palate: Medium + acid, medium + tannin is soft and smooth, medium + intensity with the labeled 14.5% abv apparent, full body with flavors of ripe dark fruit, spice, and bell pepper with a long finish.
Balance: Very Good - noticeable alcohol is a detraction
Length: Outstanding
Intensity: Outstanding
Complexity: Excellent
Overall, it's an excellent Napa Cabernet just entering it's drinking window with outstanding intensity and length. The single negative from my perspective is the labeled 14.5% abv which feels like 15%+ to my palate. Can drink now, but this will drink well for another 3-5 years. -

April 3, 2023 - PnP. Starts with a beautiful nose of cherry , blackberry, cassis, plum, earth and herb aromas. Still loaded with flavor with a similar profile. Medium body. Smooth tannins in the long finish with the oak showing up. Well balanced.
