October 17, 2021 - 30x 1955 & 1961 (mostly Bdx): Tasted single blind. Taste-off between the 1955 and 1961 vintages. Another win for the 1955 vintage here. The 1955 (rated 93 pts) had a singular, enchanting nose full of freshly braked bread and meaty notes. Same as the 1961 (rated 90 pts), there is not enough depth on the palate to play in the same category as the big names but still quit enjoyable and complete. The 1961 was a bit less giving and showed a bit astringent towards the finish. I‘m a fan of this winery after recent improvements in quality, especially of the fantastic 2018.
TN: As mentioned above this had a singular nose with intense aromas of freshly baked bread, bacon and other cold cuts, along some fine tertiary notes. On the palate this showed fine sweet red berries, floral notes, again the same meary notes and herbs. Very fresh and precise with fine tannins and a nicely creamy texture and medium+ length. Quite balanced and complete. 93+ points.
Decanting: Not decanted, which seemed fine. -

September 20, 2021 - Grand 1961 vs 1955 vintage tasting (Fribourg): Big 1961 vs 1955 tastings including 10 direct match-ups and 11 individual wines from 1961. The tasting was conducted in flights of 4, single-blind and with no previous decant with all bottles opened 1h prior to start. The line-up was dominated by Bordeaux reds, but also included 5 Sauternes, 1 Champagne, 3 Burgundy reds and 1 Ribera del Duero. The following observations are worth mentioning: i) 1961 generally came across as a better vintage today than 1955, ii) the performance correlated with the 1855 classification, iii) The most outstanding wines were outside of the Bordeaux reds with Veuve Clicquot Rosé '61, Vega Sicilia Unico '61 (both 97) and La Tour Blanche '61 (96) worth mentioning, iv) Top-performing Bordeaux was Margaux (95) in 1961 and Mouton in 1955. List of wines included in the tasting story.
Tasting note:
Intense with a mix of ripe dark and red cherry fruit, dark chocolate and black tea with a bit of gingerbread adding a pinch of sexiness. Came across incredibly young and vigorous. Juicy and rich palate with a cool but dense fruit and lots of structure. -

September 14, 2018 - Wine dinner, few attendees, lots of great wines. (Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux, many older bottles)) (My place, Copenhagen, Denmark): Cruse bottling with top shoulder fill. Short decant. True Margaux character, but seeming younger than 63 years. Fruit intact and nothing out of place. A lovely bottle in excellent shape.

December 19, 2017 - AT Xmas. Very much alive and best Rausan I've had, without doubt. Floral, exotic, pencil nose. Surprisingly tannic and concentrated with touch mint.

May 15, 2011 - Wow! Amazing! Totally unexpected. On opening huge berry fruit.Tannins still evident. Plateaued for 30 minutes but was still drinking well after an hour and a half.
