November 19, 2020 - I found this bottle in the depths of my cellar inventory. It probably wasn't stored well for the first 20 years of its life. I expected this to be poured down the drain. But the cork looked and smelled fine, and the wine had a pleasant nose. Not too much sediment on decanting. The taste? Well, it is clearly well past its prime, but we were amazed how strongly it has held up. Nothing negative to say at all; just not as positive as I suspect it would have been 15 years ago. Still full bodied, complexity on the downhill but totally acceptable. A very unexpected pleasant surprise.

October 11, 2014 - One of those bottles where I did not know what to expect. Was served semi-blind agains a 1975 Ch. Palmer. Well, not only did the Stag's Leap hold its own, its fruit made it a lot more fun and jovial to drink and lacked none of the complexity of its Left Bank partner. Both bottles were in excellent condition, with the SL still a deep ruby at its core.

August 24, 2006 - Jean-Luc Thunevin Dinner (Chanterelle, NYC): Beautiful, classic cab nose. Wow! Gorgeous fruit. Red berries, limestone, lovely subtle and elegant wine. 93-94pts
