  February 8, 2017 - Something of an odd bird. The color is that of un- or semi-oaked chard. The aromas, a nice mixture of soil, saline, minerals, poached pears, caramelized apples, and buttered, lightly toasted bread. But it kind of ends there, with the first taste. The nose just does NOT match the palate, with the acids really sticking out here, almost artificially; the finish seems a bit clipped as a result. This does have a redeeming feature though, because as soon as I introduced foods (cheese, dips, salame), the wine was quite nice. But I'm curious, so I try it again on its own, and again, I don't care for it. Not bad, just not enjoyable. Again with food, and it's quite enjoyable. Perhaps it needs another year, but I feel at the price-point and region, it shouldn't. I'd get it again if it were $15USD or less, otherwise, too many (more interesting) things to choose from. Drink thru 2018. 13,5% abv.
