July 7, 2019 - Dark garnet core. Slightly funky nose: barnyard, cigar box and dark cherry. Dry, balanced acidity, with soft tannins. Dark cherry and plum predominate on the palate, with a slightly bitter finish. Long-ish length. Needs more time, but seems quite promising.

July 21, 2018 - great old world wine

September 16, 2017 - 2005 was a a great vintage, and this wine lived up to those of its peers within it's level. Decanted so it could breathe for 2.5 hours. Immediately after uncorking, the nose exhibited plenty of fruit - cassis, cherry, strawberry, currant - but as the nose evolved, fruit gave way to dusty earth & herbs, then to tobacco leaf & spice, with a hint of leather & oak, and finally to an encore of vanilla and mint. Inconsistent legs, with the beginnings of bricking. This wine has a definite structure which is subtle, yet present. The tannins have softened to the degree that their smoothness can only support this wine for another year or three. The acidity is balanced, yet on the light side. The complexity on the palate, being somewhat deeper than shallow, is enough to keep things interesting. Flavors of cherry, raspberry, vanilla, & currant wind around pillars of minerals, leather, spices, and to a lesser degree, oak. The finish is medium long, climaxing with the cherry, vanilla, and mint. This is a Pauillac, but it seems more like a cross-hybrid with a St. Julien because it has an elegant softness - the boldness of Pauillac exists, but it exists underneath the elegance. Delicious. It also paired well with brie cheese. Time to enjoy it now. Cheers!
