July 30, 2023 - Same notes as before. Still very grippy, with a looong finish — and a gorgeous nose. I will try to bug more as this has plenty of aging potential and probably won’t hit peak for another 10 years. I drink a decent amount of Barolo and, to my palate, this is considerably better than others from or around this vintage at this price range.

October 2, 2022 - It was right in the zone, so pure and old school. Some tar and roses and a touch of undergrowth. It had black cherry fruit that intensified at the wine’s heart. There was some smoked meats and a touch of menthol too. It still has grip, but is harmonious and a wonderful drink right now.

May 13, 2022 - Absolutely gorgeous nose — rose, cocoa, graphite, thyme. Still very closed on the palate—lots of tannin. But this started to open up after being in a decanter for two hours. I think the palate will meet the promise of the nose in 5-10 years, and I’ll almost certainly rate this higher then if I have the self-restraint to hold on to my other bottle of this until then.

May 2, 2021 - Decanted for 30 mins. Consistent with previous bottle. Has not developed much since but still shows lots of primary red fruit and cinnamon and anise on the nose and palate. Medium+ acid and tannins with a drying, slightly warm, long finish. Will let my last bottle sit for several more years to see where this goes but we really enjoyed this.

April 5, 2018 - Rich and elegant, the dark blackberry and blueberry fruit is fresh and selective. The dark deep blue, black color reveals a strong and study, long and lingering, smooth and filled with finesse wine. The texture is multi-layered for a $50 wine and inherently Italian in its presence.

July 29, 2017 - Terrific as far as villero goes. Gamey and sinewy with mild tannin and pure Nebbiolo. Big fan of Oddero these days.

July 15, 2017 - Light ruby with tawny edge. Penetrating tobacco and licorice. After 2 hours in the decanter, strong black cherry as well. In the mouth, savory elements, vibrant acidity, and lots of tannin which quickly loosened its grip. No undue fat or sweetness, just unadulterated, pure, old fashioned Nebbiolo which is already revealing a lot of its charm, particularly in the piercing aromatics. Of course, another decade in bottle will only help unlock it and let the structure unwind.

May 2, 2017 - Decanted for 30 minutes. Bright, translucent ruby color. Started a bit tight on the nose but opened up over the course of dinner to reveal a beautiful aroma of red cherry, intense cinnamon (think big red chewing gum), rose petal, a bit of licorice and sweet baking spice. Ripe red berry fruit on the palate with the cinnamon and baking spice notes coming through as well as a touch of anise or herbs. Medium+ to high acidity, medium+ tannins but an approachable wine at this stage. Very youthful and enjoyable to drink but will certainly continue to develop with some age. Paired really well with a rich black truffle gnocchi and oyster mushroom dish.
