January 25, 2020 - F.X. Pichler Riesling Unendlich full vertical (1998-2017) (Restaurant Waldhorn, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Gabriel Standard
Pirate. Served blind. Popped and poured. Pale, unfiltered golden amber. Lots of spices in the nose (anise, caraway). The incredible 15,5% abv way better integrated than in most of the Unendlich. The others estimated around 12%. Good, lively acidity. Creamy, quite complex, fresh and long. Good potential for the next 5+ years. 91-92+

August 7, 2019 - This is neither an orange wine nor an ordinary wine - something between or mix of them. Unfiltered cloudiness and darkish yellow colour triggers only one association - with urine. Luckily the smell reminds me Riesling, but taste is completely different, closer to orange wine, definitely something from archaic era. Well, dear Joern, I have tried 4 of Your wines and I have strongly decided to stop to finance Your further experiments.

This note is written after 3 days of opening and the wine had traveled a lot in these three days…
Unfiltered, medium golden color with orange reflexes. Clean, intense and developing nose, that is very untypical for Riesling: Acacia honey, orange zests and English orange marmalade, anise, almonds, mineral notes. More like a ripe Chenin Blanc, but complex and very exciting.
Dry. It seems to have residual sugar but I guess the sense of sweetness results from the high alcohol (15,5%). I have NEVER had a Riesling like this and with this extreme level of alcohol. But the alcohol is balanced by the high and ripe acidity, as long as you do not keep the wine for too long on your tongue or drink it too warm. Than it can be hot and sharp, a bit like cold hot wine made of white wine...
Surely full bodied, powerful and compact, but not as monstrous as I thought. Really intense with very unusual aromas of acacia, orange, mineral notes, very long. Velvet mouthfeel, good tension and depth, high extract. Potential: Uncertain, but I guess at least for 5-10+ years. Next bottle in 3-5 years. Hard to rate, very special. If you like this style certainly between 92-94.

August 30, 2016 - Holy cow! This might be the most intensive and out-of-this-world Riesling I've ever tasted! Racy Rheingau Riesling made in a Condrieu style. Bone dry yet creamy, full body yet quite easy to drink. This is "not" terroir driven Riesling, this is Jörn driven Riesling to the max. Hard to believe this was never done before. A real treat, a unique experience and massive kudos to the winemaker to going that far without being over the top. A MUST TRY!
