Community Tasting Notes 2

March 20, 2017 - Second time around with this wine and I'm not finding it appealing - this bottle is more oily and with more unpleasant aromatics, even after the first day. The only thing I did note was that as the wine warmed into the high 50s and low 60s in the glass on day 2, the melon flavors asserted themselves more and the wine became much more interesting and palatable. So perhaps it's a white wine best drank at cellar temperature, not refrigerated.

February 20, 2017 - Pretty darn good stuff for the price - presumably they bottle a little of this Rousanne/Viognier mix though the principal use is to co-ferment with their syrah. Super stinky on opening - no surprise given the varietals. Best if it's open a couple hours as it started to soften and show a bit more fruit character. Still, stern, minerally (even metallic a tiny bit) and oily. Again, no surprise. Second day, on the nose if you close your eyes and breathe, it smells a bit like a clean syrah. In the mouth, it's melons and that kind of vine fruit. Thick, still a tiny bit oily but not in a bad way - in a Rousanne way. Long finish. There's alot happening in this wine for $20. Excellent food wine.
