Community Tasting Notes 5

September 30, 2021 - Quite different from bottle in June. Darker, mid-golden color. Citric nose with light petrol. Lemon and grapefruit on palate with intense minerality from the slate of Hamm. A tiny touch of honey on the back end suggesting beginning maturity. Relatively rounded mouthfeel. I remain surprised this is mostly matured in steel not wood. Much preferred to my first bottle. I will check on my next bottle in a few months. Hopefully it more like this one and not bottle #1.

June 24, 2021 - Medium gold in the glass. Peach, light citrus, light honey on nose. On palate, the combination continues, with a bit of mineral and saline notes. Quite round; I am surprised to see this was vinified in 25% wood, 75% stainless steel. The texture feels like it is a wood-aged wine. Honeyed notes suggest beginning of maturation, but this doesn't seem to have the acidity to go the long haul. Still likely 5+ yrs. left.

April 17, 2021 - Perhaps at end of line on this one. Not too sweet for riesling. Cuts acidity nicely. Touch of pear.

July 2, 2017 - Typical Mosel Riesling in the best sense. Quince, slate (wet after summer rain). On the palate also quince, tender sweet, but in principle a dry wine. A beautiful melt that lasts forever. Presence acid, but in a pleasant and fresh way. So tastes a great dry Mosel Riesling.
Overall 92 Points, for a dry Mosel Riesling 94.

April 23, 2017 - Quite a dark yellow color. I really like the nose which is - more than anything - extremely salty. It also packs plenty of fruit (yellow plum and apple) and some herbal notes. The palate is unsurprisingly rich, gently dry and sufficiently acidic. I actually think that there is plenty of acidity, it's just hiding a bit under all the concentration. Yellow-fruited with a tonic-like quality and some spice. Perhaps a tad unusual and somewhat riper than my ideal but goes down easily and is pleasant enough overall.
