Community Tasting Notes 5

December 20, 2021 - This wine needs longer to smooth out

October 27, 2018 - I was a little down on this wine when I last tasted it. Maybe it was an unrepresentative bottle, but this one is much improved. The fruits are super dark and quite intense with dusty plum and black cherry fruit, far from a fruit bomb. There is now nice complexity evident, with concentrated espresso and herbal notes providing a good counterbalance to the intensity of the fruit, all wrapped in a comforting blanket of toasty oak. The tannins are still velvety and there is medium acidity in support. Very nice.

February 18, 2018 - Just like some of wines tasted earlier, woods are too dominant to be of any real interest now. Soft tannins, good acidity but fairly straight forward wine. ABV 13.8% with slight heat at finish. Hard to tell if oaks would really be integrated down the road.

January 15, 2018 - A wine from the fabled 2014 Hunter Valley vintage. I tasted this as a young wine and was impressed by it. However at the moment it’s not really pressing my buttons. The wine is presenting as a fruit-bomb, dominated by sweet black cherry and raspberry fruits. The mid-palate feels a little hollow, and lacks any significant complexity, leading to a wine that just feels unbalanced. On a positive note, the tannins are quite velvety, and there is a nice lick of vanillan oak on the finish. Hoping for improvement.

    September 24, 2016 - This will be a star.

Day 1: tight, acidic, primary. Poured a glass and drank over 30 min. Screwed the cap back on and put in the fridge.

Day 2: not able to drink.

Day 3: still very primary and acidic, but on the back half showing a dark fruit, slightly spicy, velvety finish, that lasts.

Will certainly improve and a high achiever!!!!!
