April 2, 2021 - If you just can't get enough brett, this is the wine for you. Every bit of this is "good within the style", because a lot of people will flat out hate this.
On both the nose and palate, there's a huge dose of brett. There's a band-aid and iodine funk that permeates this wine and it generally has, pardon the pun, a highly medicinal quality. For me this serves as a platform for all of the fruit and spice to emerge as a contrast, but many would say this makes it undrinkably flawed.
Once you get past the funk, it's a wildly complex wine. As crazy of a profile as it has, the nose and palate are ver much in line. The fruit all has a very dried quality to it; preserved lemons, dehydrated apricots, orange rind and a bit of apple cider that adds a bit of roundness. Very spicy, with nutmeg, cinnamon and sumac notes adding an exotic tone to the wine. On the finish, the bretty notes rear up and almost reads mineral before it turn a bit more medicinal, but it is very pronounced. Very structured, with med+ acidity and drying tannin that's probably at the low end of med+, which reads as high in the context of a white grape.
This is on a pretty extreme edge of orange wine, so you better both like and want some orange funk before you drink this. Know your audience if you are popping this.
*** Ton's better on day two. It's still a wild wine, but it's just more pulled together and integrated. The harsher medicinal notes are tamed and gained a hazelnut / pine nut sort of richness, as well as the fruit gaining a bit of heft. In the future, I would open this a day prior, give it a few hours of air and seal it back up in the fridge.***1 person found this helpful Comment -

February 14, 2020 - Bold and intense structure, barnyard and brett yeast structure which you either like or you don't; I loved it! Past its earthiness, notes of orange, grapefruit, wax, honey, petrol. Long finish, strong tannin structure.
