July 11, 2021 - Quite deep golden. The most recent note below describes this very well. It does indeed show some oxidation, and is a bit muted. It also has an oily character that we relate to some northern Rhône whites — but as noted, properly paired, these characteristics work, or at least do not detract. Still, the lack of vibrancy was a bit disappointing. (Inn at Newport Ranch.) Edit: Rather surprisingly, a bit left over was best on the third night.

January 3, 2020 - Not significantly different from my last note, though some of the intensity and vibrancy was lost. Still a sort of rich restraint with faint hints of oxidation, there is nice complexity, but a somewhat muddy feel to the palate now. Doesn't detract with the right food pairing (roast chicken), but definitely one to drink up soon.

August 19, 2019 - Quite advanced based on previous experiences, though this cork didn't seem to be particularly firm. Rich and nutty, with fleshy stone fruits and some tropical elements. Faintest hints of oxidation, but at this point adding character and depth. Acid structure is still there and that classic California toffee finish is dialled up a tad. Wonderfully versatile with food, especially highly aromatic dishes. I would look carefully at the corks to see where your bottle is, but no upside on this one.

May 27, 2018 - Joseph Swan Winery tasting visit.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon-lime, peach, and some briny minerality. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of citrus lemon-lime, peach, and bits of briny minerality. Medium finish.
Good quality. Refreshing Chardonnay with none of that heavy oak signature jazzy bits. Drink and enjoy over next 2+ years.

May 26, 2018 - Aromas of butterscotch, papaya, lime and mineral. Flavors of papaya, butterscotch, caramel and mango. Ends with a 30 second finish of papaya and caramel. Not a bad rendition of the hawk hill vineyard but certainly no William selyem.
