January 29, 2023 - A chameleon of sorts, and not one I would have blindly pegged as Chablis, this Raveneau carries signature exquisite balance and breadth, but certainly plays in the luxuriant side of the sandbox. You won't find a tense or nervy showing here. There's requisite traction to be sure, yet it shares more similarities with its Côte de Beaune neighbors to the south than it does with the fossilized oyster shuckin', gunflint slingin', and acid spittin' Kimmeridgers in the northern Chablis arctic.

Lemon curd, the slightest hint of honey, a bit of Hawaiian tropic exotic (pineapple mostly), and yuzu dominate. The finish brings with it a whisper of chalk, but it rounds out almost immediately before the perception of minerality really gets a chance to kick in.

A smooth operator for sure, and a succulent elixir that delivers all the class and equilibrium of flavor one would hope for, that is unless you are hoping for more shrill and mouth-puckering Chablis typicity. You might want to venture elsewhere in that regard if you prefer the more enamel stripping dentist office thing. I appreciate both styles, but just know what lane your driving in here.

I know Raveneau devotees will say this will age for the better part of another decade or so, but I'd personally be tapping these now, as the medium intensity isn't going to get any more medium+ with time. I expect a more honeyed display going forward. More complexity in the future? Sure; perhaps. Less freshness and drive in the coming years as the sacrifice? Indeed.

Analytics and subjective fuzzy math drinking window fortune-telling aside, I thought this wine was quite lovely and a treat to drink. The symmetry here is undoubtedly top flight. Really, a gorgeous wine.

December 21, 2022 - a nose of flowers and honey. A balanced acid on the palate with lemon, pineapple, persimmon, apple, cloves and minerals. Medium weight. A long finish that continues to show a soft acidity blending with lemon and apple. A great expression of 2015.

February 29, 2020 - Souper à la maison: Belle bouteille assez riche, élégante d’une longueur qui m’évoquait un grand cru. Excellent, sans être le plus typé.

May 17, 2019 - HDH Celebration of Burgundy Dinner (Everest): Rich nose that has dense white fruit, mineral and slate. Palate has good density and weight, yet retains its brightness. Young, but tasty and showing some nuance already.

January 1, 2019 - Lovely purity on the nose, white nectarines, green apple, and flint. Saline, strong lemony acid spine, above medium bodied, and with a huge flint character that has incredible persistence. Length for days. Very impressive.
