  September 11, 2021 - I've opened three bottles of this over the past week, two for an open house for some oenophile friends and one for a family get together. It was a popular choice both times, pairing well with a variety of foods but also being very pleasant on its own. Bottles were decanted for about half an hour before serving to allow some slightly drying tannins which were initially present to subside. The cherry, strawberry and spice flavours I enjoy in Barolos which are in their prime were present and delightful. This is not an extremely complex wine but is nonethless sophisticated and has all of the characteristics you want in a well made mid-range Barolo - and at a very modest price. This wine seems fresh despite its age and should continue to drink well for five years or more.

  February 21, 2018 - At 1862 by the glass, consistent with my previous note. Tons of red berries, spices, acid and tannins. Very young and perfect with my salmon dish.

  September 12, 2017 - At 1862 by the glass. Earthy red berry nose. The palate is tart with grippy tannins, red raspberries, tar, black pepper, with an acid finish (ok it tastes way better than it sounds). Well balanced, but very young. Still, it paired well with ricotta stuffed pasta and black truffles.

  September 30, 2016 - Piedmont Trip, Day 2- Gigi Rosso, Schiavenza, Cavallotto (Barolo, Piemont, Italy): Nose: There is an understated power to the nose with a broadness to it backed up with dark red cherries, purple florals, dark red berries, tar, crushed rocks, and some raspberries. There is excellent perfumes and intensity to go with the robustness.
  
  Taste: Full bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The structure is quite youthful and imposing with dark red cherries, purple florals, crushed rocks, and earth tones.
  
  Overall: This is an excellent Barolo. It shows off the more robust and masculine side of Serralunga in style and stature, though it does lack some depth that would really drive it.
