February 13, 2016 - This one was DONE tonight. Still a rather soft entry, but the gym sock, rancid capicola and wet dog just kind of took over the entire experience and made it a "not so awesome" experience. I don't think that this wine was corked. It just seemed tired and out of its element. Hopefully the other bottles will show a little more youth!

December 31, 2011 - Interesting wine. Good that we have popped this bottle as it is going to be past it's prime soon. Good nose upon opening up. Dark fruit and subtle smoke with the fruit being muted and blended. Decent finish with lingering tannins. Went well with seared sausage with a blistered cherry tomato Merlot sauce.

April 9, 2011 - Tasted blind at a poker party. Decanted 6-hours. I seem to recall trying this years ago on release at the winery and thinking it was a decent wine. The years have not been kind, in my estimation, to this bottle. On nose and palate, this wine brought little more than generic, indistinct fruit (maybe blackberry liquor), artificial vanilla, and bitter oak. I was fatigued from sip one on this one. Midpalate was weak and the finish short. I was even drawing comparisons to generic ~$10 Ausi shiraz, but ended up guessing CA Syrah. The merlot on unveil made sense, given the fruit progression front to finish and the notable tannins that clamped down on the finish. This was not a wine that I'd want to drink more than a few sips, mainly owning to the lack of balance with the oak and generic fruit quality.

(SILVERADO MERLOT) #1; COLOR-very dark; NOSE-beautiful blackberry, little hazelnut aspect, very dark concentrated mocha; TASTE-very ripe & explosive, little Oak, beautiful Vanilla component, heavy for a Merlot (more like a "top flight" Napa Cab), very layered fruit, nice structure, very New World, clean, ripe over-the-top fruit, but very balanced; great complexity w/ nice long finish; nice QPR for today's CA wines; WE-91; GV-90
