May 11, 2021 - This wine took a bit to get going. Was a bit unilateral at first. Meyer Lemon and mineral driven wine. Then it just decided to kick somie butt. Became twice as opulent. Lemon cream, hint of sweeter butterscotch, peaches, good salinity. Flinty minerality, excellent salinity. Really nice wine. Durell is an offering from Kistler that really never disappoints. It is rather consistent from year to year. But, I do feel that this one, with the kind of slow to warm character that it had, is probably a wine that is starting to develop some tertiary characteristics. Giving a 3-5 year advance on this wine. If you have these, time to start drinking on them.

March 4, 2021 - Drank this along side a 2014 Aubert UV-SL. Everyone but me favored this wine, and we all agreed both were fabulous. The oak was more integrated in this wine than the Aubert, and it showed more minerality and saline. Some thought it was a Chablis. The Aubert was showing more fruit, and the oak was less integrated. I liked the fruit component oof the Aubert slightly more than the integrated components of the Kistler, but I was in the minority.

Kistler showed Meyers lemon, sulphur, pear and seashell, along with some well-integrated oak. A very pleasing Chardonnay that should further improve with another year or two of age. 94 points for now.

March 4, 2021 - Bordeaux Blends Smackdown (Zoom): Drank double-blind. This wine was lighter, and clearly chardonnay. There was matchstick, nice minerality and a slight saline quality. Someone else suggested a grand cru chablis, and that flavor profile resonated with my perception, but obviously we were wrong. Good job Kistler.

March 4, 2021 - Virtual Double Blind Bordeaux Blend Smackdown (Home): Light gold color. Drank a glass double blind over an hour. Lots of earthiness and ocean on the nose, lemon, pear, , a little smokiness and modest oak. The palate is full bodied, lemon to start then more pear, tangy, nice acid, good stony minerality, lightly creamy, integrating oak tones, medium plus length. Very easy to drink, complex and quite harmonious. Drank this next to a '14 Aubert UV-SL and it was more ready to go in comparison. 93+pts.

    July 21, 2020 - one of the better kistler's i have in a while.
lots of pineapple, tropical fruit notes, but good acidic backbone to balance the oak and fruit. just a slight funk/marijuana nose when first opened that I like. the body is def medium+ with a very long persistent finish. i have been finding too many kistler's of late lacking in tension but this has it and is quite delicious.
