March 15, 2022 - This has long been a favorite of mine and the best JEC I have had to date (although the others are pretty damn good, esp ‘16 Rutherford)
It is a perfect mix of old world and new world in style. Plenty of Bordeaux like complexity but also some Cali fruit and other characteristics that make it distinct. Hints of rose on the nose, mature fruit, tobacco, vanilla. Long finish. Drinking incredibly well right now and was the favorite for everyone amongst the other 3 wines we had tonight (ultramarine, turtle rock, and chateau boutisse ). None of these are similar in style, but you would expect the younger members of our group (daughter and boyfriend) to prefer the young fruity options. But they loved this one and could appreciate the additional layers of complexity.

December 27, 2020 - Reached for a trusty Napa cab to pour alongside some nice grilled rib steaks. With a quick decant, the wine seemed ready - though I suspect more time in that decanter wouldn't have hurt. Has a great dark fruit profile, and really well integrated oak treatment.

September 2, 2020 - Huge blue and black fruit coating the palate. Pretty thick. Moderate tannins but perfectly drinkable now. You can enjoy this now for the fruit or wait it out for some tertiary flavors. My vote it is drink now-2025.

August 29, 2020 - Similar to prior notes and drinking exceptionally well. So elegant and finely structured, refined fruit and beautiful finish. I brought this bottle to a get together with mostly French friends who tolerate but don’t love California cabs and this turned out to be their WOTN!
