March 17, 2024 - Enjoyed with 1982 Lagrange (Pomerol) and not shaded by it at all. Smoke, plums, cheery, cigar, with velvety mouth feel and with a long sweet finish. Beautiful wine 18.75.

June 11, 2021 - I do not understand the low scores for this wine, which I have enjoyed an several occasions. poor storage? Deeper scarlet colour compared to the La Dominique beside it. A more retrained nose, with some camphor and mint. Cool merlot fruit with plums and tobacco on the palate, and it took some time to get going in the glass then boom! 18.5.

October 11, 2019 - 1982 Bordeaux lunch (Cucinetta): Deep scarlet red with a nose of meat, blood, flowers and capsicum. Sweet fruit but perhaps drying a little from age. Some at the table suggested TCA had stripped some of the fruit, but if so this was marginal. Better with some protein, fabulous with veal tartare and at its best after two hours in the glass.

December 21, 2013 - Starts off extremely dusty (nose and palate) and not particularly appealing, but once in the mouth, a leathery, bloody fruitiness emerges. Initially a bit dirty, but cleans up and broadens at mid-palate. The finish is a touch creamy/cheesey but savoury and quite clean. A little hit of smokey appley alcohol right at the end (reminiscent of a cider/whisky blend!). Intriguing and delightful....

Scoring wines like this is tricky. Clearly past its prime. I suspect that those who don't like old claret would give it a 75. I do quite like old wines, and this had a flash of youth about it, hence my 90. Would not feel ripped-off if I had paid £25 for it - which is what puts it in the 90+ category for me.

April 28, 2010 - 90% saturated cork. Some moderate bricking present. Funky nose of copper and some vegetal notes (especially green peppers). Notes of dried dates on the nose as well. On the palate, quite flabby, with dried red fruits and some stemminess. Not much acidity, and some harsh tannins. Unpleasant finish due to coppery notes again. Way past its prime.
