Community Tasting Notes 4

  • Eudemis Likes this wine:

May 29, 2023 - 13% alcohol. The cork is quite long but of mediocre quality. Lovely colour, just barely translucent.
The nose is captivating with raspberries and dried flowers in a way that sits between Pinot and Nebbiolo (not a complaint at all...). Very lively in the mouth, just the right side of sharp, with mixed red fruit and plenty of elegance.
I normally buy the Cul de Beaujeu at this address, but I must say that I found this lower level offering to be very convincing (for those who can put up with a substantial amount of acidity).

December 11, 2021 - 13% alcohol. Pretty long cork of mediocre quality. The colour is pale and translucent.
Very aromatic nose with an intensity that contrasts with the pale colour; cherry and red berries. The mouth is similarly pleasing with excellent balance, good mouthfeel and perfectly judged acidity. Not the ultimate in terms of concentration, but with elegance aplenty.
Frankly, this bottle drinks like a Volnay from a vg producer. I normally take the upper cuvée Cul de Beaujeu at this address, but I am very impressed with this bottle. Very good match for pot-roasted pigeon.
    A repeat purchase.

November 25, 2021 - After an hour decant - strawberries and hints of wet earth and tobacco on the nose. A pleasing, round, earthy body leading to a smooth finish with decent minerality.

June 10, 2018 - 13% alcohol. Very good long cork with no wine penetration. Medium ruby colour.
Nice vivid nose of red cherries. The mouth is in the same vein with good fruit and balance; excellent acidity. Classy mouthfeel.
I really enjoyed this wine while writing this note after the meal; however it did not shine with food (roast chicken which I have always regarded as pretty forgiving). Very enjoyable without evoking Burgundy in any way.
A repeat purchase, but I have to find a better food match for this wine.
