Also, we got some rather unusual, but not unpleasant, suggestions of aged mushrooms. Pleasant and quite interesting over three nights. We suspect this would have shown considerably more fruit a few years earlier.

Not a lot of fruit, though, which is problematic. I found this dissapointing because a Rose wine needs to have some fruit flavor—this was just chalk and acidity. To me Loire Rose is more on the white white end of the spectrum, but this is a little too far on that spectrum. I want at least some red fruit flavors like watermelon or strawberry. Also, for a Pinot Noir Rose, I want some earthiness, which I just didn’t find here. Really, it’s very one dimensional. I remember drinking Lucien Crochet’s Sancerre Rose a few years back and it was fantastic. This wine isn’t as good at this point.
I wonder if it would have been better at a younger age? I’d be curious to try another bottle from a different vintage and at a younger age. This is supposed to be one of the great Rose wines, especially for agining, but this bottle didn’t seem to work out for me.1 person found this helpful Comment -

July 6, 2017 - Funky looking sediment in the bottle. Nice acidity and floral, citrus notes. A faint whiff of charcoal brisket was pretty interesting. Good stuff.

May 28, 2017 - PNP. cork perfect. color light salmon. nose has florals and orange rind but nose is delicate. swishing shows creamy acid that coats the palate and persists on the finish. sipping allows the soft fruit to shine and subdue the acid....here too the flavors are light on the palate. quite refreshing
