Community Tasting Notes 5

October 12, 2023 - I am afraid I have kept it too long, so much tertiary notes dominating now like leather and musk. However the power of fruit did not make it dead. 8-10 years should be max for this wine:)

January 7, 2023 - clear ruby with tea-like reflexes. nose: chicken stock, umami; herbs - lovage, oregano; some red cherries in the second attack. Robust. taste: high acidity; fruit - still present - red cherries, chokeberries, blueberries; white pepper some tar. Very ripe tannins; spices - cloves. very long finish full of herbs and pepper. Excellent.

April 17, 2018 - Almost too white-peppery I think. Lots of bright and rich fruit - pinot-ish fruit. High quality. I can imagine some finding the white pepper intrusive though I like it! 90+ for me today as I would prefer a bit better balance toward pure fruit.

January 24, 2018 - Showing far better than the previous bottle. Nose not all that expressive at the moment however. Dusty fruit. But the palate was singing. Nettles, herbs, honey and a strong dash of white peppercorns mixed up with vivid red fruits and a hint of funk. Long and very distinctive and how I remember this wine from a few years back. Just a shame the bouquet is currently not working with the palate. 92 with potential for a point or two more in time.

December 28, 2017 - Dusty zesty, Burgundian in some ways. Bitter Italian character though, with smoke and pickled strawberries. Some funk. Deft on the palate. Good, but not as good as the previous vintage I tried a few years ago. A bit too lean and a bit too bitter/acidic. Sort of reminiscent of a introverted, lean, graceful aged Cornas.

This was served too cold - accentuating the acids. Scored taking this into account and expecting a bit more generosity if served at room temperature, which would be more like 90+
