  December 23, 2018 - My last bottle. I stood this up in the morning and then took it on the subway in the evening. It showed noticeable sediment in the neck but small thimble sieve took care of all that and it ended up being the clearest and best bottle I’ve had. Pure and clear on the nose with no stink: sour cherry, earth, minerals, tough, some meat and barnyard develop. Definitely some leaves and autumnal notes. Stinky sock. Classic Pommard. The palate is earthy, stinky, with lots of mushroom, cherry, leaves, tannin and acid. Lots of structure but I think this is at peak now before it dries out. Just classic old-school Burgundy that is complex and subtle and perfumed.

  December 7, 2017 - Loads of spices and elegance. This wine is in a great spot right now. Nice sappy red fruit. Great integration of all the components. Would have to think this wine is peaking. So much minerality, spice and hints of tobacco and leather on the palate. A great wine tonight.

  December 6, 2017 - Champagne Showdown: 1995 v. 1996 (Atera): Fantastic nose, highly expressive and heavily earth influenced. Lots of soil and big spice. On the palate this is much more vibrant than expected wth a punch of red cherry up from and more developed red berry fruit through the mid palate and finish. Very impressive.

  September 3, 2017 - This bottle is definitely past peak and fading rapidly. Very similar to a good traditional Rioja without the dill notes.

  December 30, 2016 - Homemade Pizza Night (Bill's, Wilmette IL): Nose: The nose is searching, deep, and aromatic with sour red cherries, earth tones, leather notes, raspberries, violets, and black tea. The nose shows off maturity with the way it melds together and all of the tones working in harmony.
  
  Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and medium+ tannins. The structure is still there, but more in the supporting category with the tannins showing themselves to be fine grained. The feel is regal and refined with sour red cherries, leather, raspberries, violets, and black tea tones.
  
  Overall: This was absolutely gorgeous. It's bottles like this is why people chase after Burgundy. This has taken on an ethereal quality and it captures the imagination at every moment.
