August 12, 2016 - If you pop and pour this one instead of breathe/decant, you did this wine -easily a 90- a disservice . STILL WAY YOUNG & NEEDS LOTS OF AIR.
Full fruit nose, lots of complex licorice, cedar/earthy and dark fruit on the taste - constantly evolved as the bottle opened up- almost too changing and complex to assess all the singular components. Lots of depth and balance. Brooding/dark appearance, as expected. This has a couple more very good years on it; can drink now, but it is just now starting to open up, so I would wait until end of 2016 at the earliest and try another bottle. Label says best drinking up to 8 years.

July 24, 2016 - The Schild is a gorgeous, lush, full-bodied mouthful of a wine. First introduced to the 2008 vintage thanks to the inclusion in the WS ranking, picked up the 2009 based on the prior year's reputation. Powerful nose of dark fruit, heavy on black cherry in particular. That core of dark fruit is accompanied by chocolate, pepper and hints of tobacco. A chewy mouthful made more intense by big, soft tannins that add complexity of structure. Heated finish that lasts a good 45 seconds. Great wine, super well made. Sadly my last bottle in the cellar.
