Community Tasting Notes 3

September 9, 2018 - The bottle notes James Suckling's 92 point review of this wine. I think it's a decent bottle but can't generate much enthusiasm for it. Can't quite put my finger on why, but I don't love this bottle and don't plan to buy more.

Normally a Cru Beaujolais is a slam dunk for me and easy to love. There is ample fruit here paired with lively acidity and a healthy dose of well integrated tannins as well. Nothing wrong, just not a favorite.

August 20, 2017 - Big and bold fruited with a bit of tannin. Dry on the finish but a big wine from a ripe year. Decent but vintage is quite different to more typical years. Best with food.

July 25, 2017 - Screwcap. Not the "flower label", but a label with one corn flower on it. I hope its the same wine. Or maybe I don't, because what I have in my glass is pretty dire. I accept that you are not likely to get great Beaujolais for €8 a bottle in a supermarket, but the combination of Brouilly, Duboeuf and 2015 surely should bode well? And yes, the fruit is slightly darker and deeper, it has some substance and nice Gamay typicity, but on the palate the unripe phenolics are very dry and what should be a lush and succulent finish is like cold, black tea. Maybe they harvested (too) early to avoid alcoholic overripeness? However this may be, the whole thing feels disjointed and charmless. Wars are nor won by evacuations, but this is hardly a reason to fight for France. God only knows what would have happened if Churchill had factored climate change into the equation...
