August 18, 2023 - This is the twelfth bottle from the 2001 Brunello vintage, over nine labels, which I’ve enjoyed since 2011. Other than a single 89 for one label, I’ve given 90+ points (mostly 92-94 points) to the other eight producers….point being, this was a fantastic and age worthy vintage in this DOCG.
Opened 30 minutes prior to enjoying with stacked ravioli with beef, and pork bolognese sauce. Used a cork puller, cork showed about 50% of minor oxygen intrusion; this was not decanted given its age. As expected, minor bricking with a still deep ruby core. Intense aromas of dried cherry, cooked raspberry, drying tobacco, old shoe leather, green herbs, and dried red dirt, interspersed with red rocks. Aromatics follow through to the palate, with some green notes lingering. Fruit, tannin and acids are mostly integrated, but the acidity definitely shows on the finish. Early stages of maturity, should drink well for another 5+ years. Drink now. Decanting not required, but this really enhances hearty food. Excellent! -

December 30, 2017 - Double Decanted at around noon and enjoyed from 4-6pm with dinner at our family Christmas party. Dark and somewhat brooding in color (garnet) and style. Initially on decanting it had a very strong medicinal trait that faded by dinner. Smokey, earthy, cedary and full of dried cherries and cranberries and some tobacco on the finish. Very smooth mouth feel with lots of texture. Nicely layered, enjoyable and flavorful.

September 15, 2012 - One of many at the Pana Weatherford Extravaganza. This was just about the best of the best wines of the night. This wine was tremendous. It was decanted for about 2 hours before it was enjoyed. There was everything in this wine - blackberry, candied apple nose on a rather dark pour. The palate was all blackberry, licorice, SMOOTH wine. I don't have many written notes here besides giving it 95. In a lineup consisting of a Falcor, Caymus, Lamborn and Viansa, this one outdid just about every single one of them in more than 1 way. The acidity in this wine was all but gone, and it was ready to show its character, and was enjoyed both with and without food. I am very happy at the showing of this wine, and if it was up to me, I would have taken home the rest of the case!! Drinking BEAUTIFULLY right now.

January 4, 2012 - Super classically styled, excellent wine. Dusty, bloody with snappy fresh juicy red fruit. Perfect ripeness with freshness, tannins well resolving and soft, acid bright but not the least out of place. Still improving 3+ hrs in when we finished the bottle, really excellent and should have a decade or more ahead of it, with the best to come. One of the best 01 Brunelli I have had.

March 27, 2010 - Needs lots of decanting something that we didnt have time for as this was a restaurant purchase.
Well enjoyable, although closed on the nose. Nothing harsh but no magic either.
