December 5, 2019 - From the wine list at Racines. Like many of the '12s this is drinking nicely right now. Decanted and consumed over a few hours . Red juicy fruits, with some tar and florals. Quite different to the '14 Burlotto Movigliero which was much more herbal, but also quite delicious. Nice to linger over these two wines side by side and appreciate the differences.

December 5, 2019 - Drinking quite nicely. It's bright red fruits and almost a bit of juiciness right in the beginning. There's more of a mineral/iron ore note towards the end. It's a bit less finely structured than the Burlotto we had right next to it, but still an enjoyable and compelling wine. Opened up through the night.

October 27, 2019 - This was excellent. Nose showed crystalline pure red fruits, floral and spice notes, orange peel, tar. The palate is generous but lively with good acidity. The concentration buffers the tannins but on the finish the tannins build and show the structure. Should age nicely

October 19, 2019 - Earthy, wild and floral. Delicate and with suprisingly smooth tannins. Lovely wine!

December 5, 2018 - Double decant + slow O for 8 hours. A more reticent nose, but you get dense roses and tar, and when you swirl, it really pops out more. On the palate, wine was sweet sour strawberry, but leans more strawberry. This is a big wine. Upon first opening, I got too much heat, but a testament to the wine, this manifested in more spice than straight alcohol. Over time, this heat faded into a nice subtle cinnamon/spice element. The 2011 was not only more accessible, but felt lighter on its feet, with greater purity of fruit, more silky, equivalent tannin, and overall more elegant. Over time, I think the 2012 will evolve into a less nuanced/more powerful version of the 2011. 92-93 now, 93-94 with time (and 5+ years, if not 10)? I don't think the 2011 edges out here, I think the 2011 crushes.
